They’ll round them up in the fields and in their homes, the schools and the restaurants, and they’ll brag about the numbers. It’s happened before. We’ll share the videos of the raids and pictures of crying children. We’ll share the numbers and the videos and pictures with fuckwords and exclamation points and warnings. They’ll share them with laughter. And the raids will continue and the numbers will grow and the faces will blur. It’s happened before.
We’ll get tired. We’ll be shocked again. And we’ll tire again. Someone will make a speech. Someone will protest. It’s all happened before.
We’ll forget to ask where they went. Where they are. Who were they anyway. No one knows. There’ll be rumors and lies and truth and it’ll be impossible to tell and we’ll be tired. It’s all too absurd and it’s all insanity and the cruel will laugh and point and jeer and we’ll rage and cry and it’ll all happen again. Like it happened before.
I’m probably being reactive. I’m probably thinking of how this happened before. I’m probably thinking of a book I read about a man who tried to take a country but they stopped him in time. Then he got a slap on the wrist and came back promising change and reform, promised to rid a nation of the filth and remove the illegals. They were illegals. They were criminals. They were being deported. So the country could make itself great again.
It couldn’t happen again. We know better.
I know. I fucking know.
A powerful post!
