I have to renew my lease. It’s open in the next tab. Sign on for 11 months. And I can’t hit the button. The tab’s been open since Thursday. If I hit it now, it’ll spin over to a login page.

It’s likely the first lease I’ve renewed. In my adult life, I think the only time I’ve stayed in one place longer than a year is when I owned a house. Maybe that’s why they want you to own a house. Maybe it’s why we want to own houses. Maybe both.

Moving is expensive, even done cheaply. I’ve moved a few times in work vans I wasn’t supposed to be driving on my day off. But that was before the transponders. Even without the cost of a van, there are deposits and pet deposits and utility connection fees, spackle for those nail holes, your new place doesn’t have a washing machine, and you really do need a new shower curtain. You know the list. The main thing about it is it’s always more than your budget.
