Awww Woody. He’s the least leave-able and most lovable dog out there, and I adore my dog to the ends of the earth so that’s saying something. Wishing you guys the easiest move and the best zoomies in the new yard. And sending you both lots of love.

I once had a sweet goofy Golden Retriever named Axel. He came to me from a shelter, where he’d been surrendered by a family with a home daycare. Evidently he liked to run with the little kids and got so excited he peed while doing that a few times. No little kids in my house and we were doing great. When moving day came, he anxiously watched a few truckloads come and go. We had one last load, including an old metal file cabinet. That thing was heavy as hell so we took the drawers out and slid it flat into the truck. Axel saw that that truck was full and that the house was empty. He leaped into the empty file cabinet and army crawled all the way inside. Refused to come up into the drivers cab so he arrived at the new place in the cabinet.

If all you did was rescue him from the shelter you’re a hero. That’s no life for a dog in those places.

He’s where he’s happy now. Such a lucky dog! Thank you for sharing his awesomeness with us.

And yours too.

You got this Woody! Moving is so stressful. He's intuitive and attached to you, his loving companion. The final scene where you're writing in the kitchen and he's patrolling the backyard for birds 🥹. Good Lad!

Brilliant insight understanding what triggered his anxiety! I’m impressed. (Are you a Temple Grandin fan? I also admire her ability to look at the world from an animal’s perspective. And her work explaining autism is …. Hmmm. I’ve run out of vocabulary. I didn’t want to use brilliant again. But she is.)

When I adopted Sully they told me a previous foster had left him alone the first day. He pushed an air conditioner out of the window and escaped. Yes, he has separation anxiety. I took him to the vet for an introductory visit and Sully is now medicated with a Supplemental Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitor or SSRI. He's now down to half the original dose and he appears to be very relieved when I return home from a trip to someplace I can't take him (which is almost everywhere now that the temperatures are high enough not to make him wait in the car for me). Fortunately, he really likes Heather so it's only when we're both gone that he shows signs of having been anxious. But he doesn't try to escape -- he's just very happy when we get back.

First of all, yes to infinity about puppies. Even when I got my first dog, when I was young and my joints worked, I didn't want a puppy. They're so much goddamn work. Yeah, Hobbes had some shit to work through; who fucking doesn't. He still knew not to pee in the house from day one.

We moved a couple of times during Hobbes' tenure. He was pretty ok during the packing. But every single time, once all the boxes were inside the new place, he took an inaugural dump on the new floor.

This apartment is the last one he christened. Despite both me and my husband wanting to move for years, it'll be a little hard when the time comes.

Thanks for this. I couldn’t sleep (woke up too damned early), and here’s this nice photo of a very sweet dog.

Moving sucks for everyone. :I’m still living out of boxes from last week’s latest construction adventure. If you need something that has hidden itself, let me know - I probably have one or two or three of whatever it is stacked up in my living room. You’re welcome to my dremel tools. At least I know where those are. I think.

"War is hell. And moving isn't so great, either."

Especially for dogs, but it sounds like Woody will be just fine.

He's lucky to have you.
